Meeting with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt at COP28

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a meeting today, in the margins of COP28, with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdelfattah al-Sisi.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations, and in particular on the prospects for growth in trade and the strengthening of energy cooperation and interconnections between Egypt and Europe via Italy. The ongoing serious crisis in the Middle East was another key topic of the meeting, in relation to which it was agreed to continue urgent and coordinated diplomatic action to curb its further expansion and the related humanitarian consequences. President Meloni thanked President Sisi for the diplomatic and logistical cooperation in deploying Italian humanitarian aid for Gaza at the Egyptian port of Al Arish and for the imminent arrival of the ‘Vulcano’ hospital ship carrying medical aid. Italy and Egypt agreed to continue to work in a spirit of enhanced cooperation with the aim of achieving sustainable peace in Gaza
