The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg, at Palazzo Chigi. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the possibilities to further strengthen the already excellent bilateral relations, above all in the energy sector and defence industry. The two leaders also had an in-depth discussion on the main topics on the international and EU agenda, with particular reference to migration issues, competitiveness and security, also in view of the upcoming engagements at European level.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, attended the ceremony at the Quirinale Palace today to mark the day of remembrance for the victims of the Foibe massacres and the exodus from Istria, Rijeka and Dalmatia, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.

The Foiba of Basovizza is a sacred place, a national monument, to be honoured with silence and prayer. Dishonouring Basovizza, and what’s more, with repugnant graffiti evoking dramatic events in our history, does not only mean trampling on the memory of the martyrs of the Foibe massacres, but also means dishonouring the nation as a whole. This was an act of unprecedented gravity, which cannot go unpunished.
