The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met with King Abdullah II of Jordan at Palazzo Chigi today. The meeting primarily focused on the situation in Gaza, where there are still urgent humanitarian needs. In this regard, the two leaders expressed their appreciation for the solid cooperation between the two nations in providing humanitarian aid, both as part of Italy’s ‘Food for Gaza’ initiative and with Jordan’s airlift initiative, to which Italy contributed with helicopters made available by the Ministry of Defence. A steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) was held at Palazzo Chigi today, focusing solely on the ‘Inclusion and Cohesion’ mission. The purpose of the meeting, called and chaired by Minister for European Affairs, the NRRP and Cohesion Policy Tommaso Foti and attended by Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies Claudio Durigon as well as by regional presidents and representatives from the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, was to verify in detail the progress of the reform to enhance active labour market and education and training policy services – the national programme for the guaranteed employability of workers (‘GOL’) – at regional level. The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, attended this morning’s wreath-laying ceremony with the Head of State at the Altare della Patria memorial in Rome, on the national day celebrating Italy’s unification, constitution, national anthem and flag. To mark this national day, which was established by Law no. 222 of 23 November 2012, the President of the Council of Ministers appointed Government representatives to lay wreaths at the tombs of the ‘Padri della Patria’ (the ‘Fathers of the Nation’): Giuseppe Mazzini, Camillo Benso di Cavour, Vittorio Emanuele II and Giuseppe Garibaldi.
