President Meloni’s calls with President von der Leyen and Prime Minister Mitsotakis

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, is continuing with preparations for the European Council meeting of 23-24 March. Following her telephone conversation with German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz yesterday, President Meloni spoke today with the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The telephone calls focused on the agenda for the summit in Brussels: the priority of full and 360-degree support for Ukraine by the European Council; the rapid implementation of the February European Council’s decisions to finally have a European management of migration flows; European solutions for the competitiveness of the continent's economies through the full use of the appropriate EU instruments. 

With Prime Minister Mitsotakis, it was also agreed to further deepen the already strong bilateral relations. 

With President von der Leyen, the urgency of European action on migration was shared, as underlined by the President of the European Commission in her letter yesterday to EU leaders, in line with the Italian priorities on this topic.
