President Meloni’s message on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities

3 Dicembre 2022

On the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Government confirms its full commitment to upholding everyone’s right to lead an autonomous, independent life and to be valued according to their talents and different skills.
We will concretely address the problems faced every day by people with disabilities, their families, local authorities, associations, public and private operators and the third sector. It is our job to ensure full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, focusing on the central importance of the individual through life projects. From the outset, the Government has committed to supporting the most vulnerable people.  In fact, one of the main measures of the budget law provides for funding to make the higher ‘assegno unico’ [‘single allowance’] amount for children with disabilities structural in nature and no longer temporary. This is a first step, and many others will follow, along a path that must see all institutions united and heading in the same direction.
