President Meloni’s telephone conversation with President Erdoğan on the Middle East crisis

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, continues to stay in close contact with key Heads of State and Government of allied nations and leaders of the countries most affected by the ongoing deep crisis in the Middle East region. 

In this context, President Meloni had a comprehensive telephone conversation today with the President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, which emphasised the value of their Countries’ close bilateral ties.
The exchange of views addressed the latest developments in the ongoing crisis. The President of the Council of Ministers called for a rapid easing of the conflict, which must not spill over into the rest of the region, and underlined Türkiye’s crucial role in this context. 

Both leaders reaffirmed their willingness to contribute to the region’s security and stability at this difficult time. The conversation provided an opportunity to reiterate Italy’s position, in particular the need for Hamas to immediately release the hostages and support for humanitarian pauses for the civilian population in Gaza. In this context, the President of the Council of Ministers informed her interlocutor about the Italian humanitarian aid that has been delivered via Egypt and the other possible arrangements that may be deployed to support the civilian population in Gaza.
The two leaders stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination on developments in the crisis and expressed their hope that they would soon have another opportunity to meet.
