It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Professor Francesco Alberoni, a pillar of sociology and communication studies.
He told of Italy’s dreams and desires, instincts and longings, revolutions and rebellions, disappointments and revivals.
His books, articles and commentaries described and accompanied anthropological changes in Italian society.
He managed to describe Italians in intimate detail, the dynamics of love and human relationships and the most difficult-to-understand aspects of our existence, being linked to the most irrational side of human beings.
A rare example of an intellectual who succeeded in combining his knowledge, studies and thoughts with people’s daily lives. A true master who was able to elegantly and delicately convey his knowledge, without ever appearing distant or inaccessible.
We will miss him. Italy will miss him. My personal condolences, and those of the entire Government, go to his family and loved ones.
