New NRRP steering committee meeting held at Palazzo Chigi. Minister Fitto: fruitful dialogue, we are working on the Plan’s overall definition

18 July 2023

A fruitful first day of discussions was held today with employers’ associations, who were invited to a National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) steering committee meeting at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto. The discussions were divided into sector-specific sessions, with the first being attended by representatives of Confindustria, Ance, Confedilizia, Abi and Ania; the second by representatives of Coldiretti, Confagricoltura, Cia, Unsic and Copagri; and, the third by representatives of Federterziario, Confetra, Confeservizi, Confprofessioni and Assoprofessioni.
All sessions were dedicated to examining the Plan’s most recent developments, with a particular focus on the third six-monthly NRRP report, the revision of the fourth instalment, in relation to which the European Commission is currently assessing amendments to 10 of the 27 objectives, and the inclusion of the REPowerEU chapter.
“The aim is to take action on critical issues and coordinate all measures being implemented, regarding not only the National Recovery and Resilience Plan but also cohesion policy and development and cohesion funds, in order to have a single vision for the various resources available”, explained Minister Fitto. “The purpose of dividing discussions into individual working groups is to better define issues relating to each specific sector, in order to more effectively tailor the measures necessary”, he added.
This approach was particularly welcomed by all working group participants, who thanked Minister Fitto for the work carried out so far and for the attention paid to them.
“This is the best way to enhance the steering committee’s role and to promptly identify solutions to any difficulties. We intend to consolidate this dialogue and use your suggestions to assess how to improve this approach”, concluded Minister Fitto.
Meetings will continue tomorrow starting at 10am, with the participation of organisations representing workers and companies.
The individual documents that will be drawn up and shared at the end of the two steering committee meetings will then be submitted to Parliament for debate.
