Meeting on budget law held at Palazzo Chigi

30 October 2023

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, chaired a meeting at Palazzo Chigi today, attended by Vice-President and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, Vice-President and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Maurizio Leo, Undersecretaries of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano and Giovanbattista Fazzolari, Honourable MP Lorenzo Cesa from ‘Unione di Centro’ and Honourable MP Maurizio Lupi, President of ‘Noi Moderati’.

The meeting showed the great unity and determination among the parties in the governing majority, which has allowed for a responsible budget law based on sound public finances that, despite the difficult context, is able to reduce the tax burden on the lower and middle classes, supporting families and workers. The text will be sent to Parliament later today as planned, upon completion of the necessary drafting work and after it has been signed for authorisation by the Head of State. The majority parties confirmed their will to proceed swiftly with approval of the Budget Law, therefore without submitting any amendments. The Government will pay close attention to the parliamentary debate and the observations made by majority and opposition parties.
