President Meloni’s statement on anniversary of the founding of the Italian Army
4 May 2023
Today, Italy is celebrating the 162nd anniversary of the founding of the Italian Army. 4 May 1861 marked the beginning of a glorious story, characterised by love of country, a sense of honour and duty, professionalism and selflessness, and thanks to which our Tricolour has flown and continues to fly high in the world.
The Government expresses its deep gratitude to the men and women of the Italian Army who, every day, guarantee the security of our institutions and national community, operate in international peacekeeping and stability missions and help disaster-stricken populations.
It is with gratitude that we remember those who have lost their lives, even at a very young age, while doing their duty during military operations, humanitarian missions or training exercises. Today, the entire national community expresses its affection and gratitude to the Army, which has been making Italy proud since 1861.
Long live the Armed Forces! Long live the Italian Army! Long live Italy!
