Meeting with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met today with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, at Palazzo Chigi. The meeting focused on the joint work on migration as part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in London on 27 April this year. The two leaders agreed to co-finance an initial Italy-UK project for assisted voluntary returns to Countries of origin, organised by the IOM for migrants stranded in Tunisia. The discussion went on to cover the main issues in international politics, starting with Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the Middle East crisis.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a joint meeting with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, at Palazzo Chigi today. After agreeing on the need to tackle illegal migration to Europe in an increasingly structured way, the leaders decided to further intensify cooperation between the three Countries in combating human traffickers. At the same time, the leaders reiterated the importance of achieving definitive stabilisation of the Western Balkans, based also on the recent progress made in the European Union enlargement process in the region.

Il Presidente Giorgia ha incontrato congiuntamente a Palazzo Chigi il Primo Ministro del Regno Unito Sunak e il Primo Ministro della Repubblica di Albania Rama. Dopo aver concordato sulla necessità di affrontare in modo sempre più strutturato l’immigrazione illegale verso l’Europa, i Leader hanno concordato di intensificare ulteriormente la collaborazione fra i tre Paesi a contrasto dei trafficanti di esseri umani. Ribadita nel contempo l’importanza di giungere ad una definitiva stabilizzazione dei Balcani occidentali, anche sulla base dei passi avanti recentemente compiuti nel processo di allargamento alla regione dell’Unione Europea.

Incontro con il Primo Ministro del Regno Unito
Il Presidente del Consiglio, Giorgia Meloni, ha incontrato a Palazzo Chigi il Primo Ministro del Regno Unito, Rishi Sunak. Al centro dei colloqui, il lavoro comune in ambito migratorio nel quadro del Memorandum d’intesa firmato a Londra lo scorso 27 aprile. I due Leader hanno stabilito di cofinanziare un primo progetto italo-britannico di rimpatri volontari assistiti nei Paesi di origine predisposto dall’OIM (Organizzazione Internazionale per le Migrazioni) a favore di migranti bloccati in Tunisia. La discussione ha quindi toccato i principali dossier della politica internazionale, a partire dall’invasione russa dell’Ucraina e dalla crisi in Medio Oriente.

European Council meeting of 14 and 15 December
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, attended the European Council meeting in Brussels, after which she addressed journalists at a press point.
