11 Gennaio 2024

The Government met with trade union organisations at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Rome today, to discuss the former Ilva steel plant in Taranto. During the meeting, the Government informed the trade unions about the outcome of the negotiations held on Monday 8 January with the majority shareholder ArcelorMittal. The Government delegation informed attendees that it is working diligently in order to settle negotiations with ArcelorMittal and swiftly identify the path for the plant’s future within a clear and defined framework whose primary goal is to ensure the company keeps producing. Another meeting with trade union organisations has been called for next Thursday (18 January) to present the outcome of the ongoing negotiations. The Government also stressed that it wants to continue its active listening approach and that all social and production partners will be received. Lastly, the Government stated its full willingness, once the talks with ArcelorMittal have come to a close, to set up a round table at the Ministry of Labour in order to examine all aspects related to employment and workplace safety.
