Following the steering committee meeting on 6 February, in the presence of President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni, with Italy’s main energy and electricity sector operators, important discussions were held today with regional, provincial and municipal representatives to define Italy’s REPowerEU chapter, which must be submitted to the European Commission by 30 April. REPowerEU is the EU’s plan to cope with the global energy market difficulties caused by the war in Ukraine. Today’s meeting was attended by Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto and Minister for Regional Affairs and Autonomies Roberto Calderoli.
These initial discussions are fundamental as regional and local authorities will play a key role in implementing the plan, which regards not only the actions to be put in place – by revising the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (‘NRRP’) and cohesion policy funds to ensure energy independence - but also a whole series of measures concerning rules and regulations, and a number of incentives to support households and businesses.
