President Meloni’s statement on seventh anniversary of the earthquake in central Italy
“Seven years have passed since the terrible earthquake that hit central Italy at 3.36am on 24 August 2016. On that awful night, a powerful tremor triggered a succession of destruction that went on until early 2017, involving an extremely vast area of our nation. Four regions were affected, more than three hundred lives were lost, hundreds were injured, tens of thousands of people had to evacuate and entire towns and villages were destroyed or seriously damaged.

My congratulations to Prime Minister Modi on what is a historic achievement in space exploration.
The successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 at the Moon’s south pole is the culmination of great scientific, industrial and organisational efforts, but is also the realisation of a national community’s dream and the human desire to always venture further.
I am certain that India’s efforts to advance towards new frontiers of human knowledge will foster bilateral cooperation with Italian institutions that have extraordinary scientific expertise, and I look forward to meeting with Prime Minister Modi again in a few weeks’ time when I return to New Delhi for the G20 Summit.

"Sono trascorsi sette anni dal terribile terremoto che alle 3.36 del 24 agosto 2016 ha colpito il Centro Italia. In quella terribile notte, una forte scossa ha dato il via ad una sequenza distruttiva che si è protratta fino ai primi giorni del 2017 e che ha coinvolto un territorio molto vasto della nostra Nazione. Quattro le Regioni colpite, più di trecento vite spezzate, centinaia di feriti, decine di migliaia di sfollati, borghi e città interamente distrutti o gravemente danneggiati.

On several occasions, I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know this extraordinary woman, a patriot who was awarded the Gold Medal for Military Valour for her bravery in the ranks of the Osoppo Brigades during the Resistance. We all send her our best wishes today and our thanks for being such a steadfast example of love of country and freedom.

“Both personally and on behalf of the entire Government, I wish to express the deepest condolences and sympathy of the institutions to the relatives of Guardia di Finanza officers Lorenzo Paroni and Giulio Alberto Pacchione, who tragically lost their lives while on duty, following an accident in the Western Julian Alps”.
