President Meloni at the G7 Summit

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, today attended the second day of the G7 Summit, which is being held in Hiroshima from 19 to 21 May.
In the margins of the Summit, where the afternoon working sessions also included G7 Partner Countries and international organisations, President Meloni had bilateral meetings with the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. 
This evening, President Meloni announced in a press conference that she had decided to return to Italy earlier than planned in order to closely follow the severe weather emergency.

Yesterday, in the morning, President Meloni participated in the leaders’ visit to the city’s Peace Memorial Museum and later attended an EU coordination meeting in the margins of the Summit, together with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, President of the European Council Charles Michel and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, on Ukraine, industrial issues, defence of the Union’s common interests and the energy transition. President Meloni went on to have bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, with the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz. In the evening, the G7 leaders moved to the island of Miyajima, where they visited the Itsukushima Shrine and had a working dinner before returning to Hiroshima.

On Thursday 18 May, on the eve of the Summit, President Meloni had a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida.
