President Meloni calls Government meeting and speaks with international leaders on Israel-Iran crisis
After calling a government meeting on the crisis in the Middle East, President Meloni spoke over the telephone today with US President Trump, German Federal Chancellor Merz, and European Commission President von der Leyen. Later in the day, she spoke with a number of leaders in the region, discussing how to work together to support a diplomatic solution. President Meloni also had a conversation today with the Prime Minister of the State of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.

President Meloni chairs video conference meeting on military escalation in the Middle East
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, chaired a video conference meeting earlier today to assess the consequences of the military escalation in the Middle East. The meeting was also attended by Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers Matteo Salvini, Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto, Minister of Economy and Finance Giancarlo Giorgetti, Undersecretaries of State Alfredo Mantovano and Giovanbattista Fazzolari, and the heads of Italy’s intelligence services.

President Meloni meets with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, at Palazzo Chigi today. The meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth exchange of views in preparation for the upcoming NATO Summit, with particular reference to spending on collective security and the building of an increasingly innovative and competitive defence industry, in complementarity with the EU. The meeting reaffirmed support for Ukraine and the Atlantic Alliance’s role as an essential pillar for collective defence, as well as the importance of a comprehensive approach to Euro-Atlantic security.

Following the meeting, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, Minister of Labour and Social Policies Marina Elvira Calderone and Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Maurizio Leo held a press conference to illustrate the measures adopted.

President Meloni receives International Olympic Committee President Bach
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, at Palazzo Chigi today. IOC President Bach was accompanied by IOC President-elect Kirsty Coventry, who will take office on 24 June. Also in attendance were Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi; outgoing President of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) Giovanni Malagó, full member of the IOC and President of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation; CEO of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation Andrea Varnier. The topics discussed during the meeting included organisation of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games.
