President Meloni meets with Prime Minister Schoof of the Netherlands

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, at Palazzo Chigi today.

The two leaders had an in-depth discussion on the latest developments regarding the conflict in Ukraine and the outcome of the talks held in Saudi Arabia between the Ukrainian and US delegations, as well as on the issues of European and Euro-Atlantic security and preparations for the NATO Summit to be held in The Hague on 24 and 25 June.

The meeting also centred around coordination on the main issues on the EU agenda ahead of the European Council meeting of 20 and 21 March, with particular reference to European defence, competitiveness and the fight against irregular migration. President Meloni took the opportunity to thank Prime Minister Schoof for their joint efforts to find innovative solutions and for the support expressed for Italy’s positions in the context of the preliminary ruling proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union regarding the ‘safe country of origin’ concept.

During the meeting, the excellent state of the bilateral relationship was reaffirmed, which is reflected in both the significant trade flows and the fruitful cooperation in numerous and vast strategic sectors of common interest.
