President Meloni expresses appreciation for France’s decision on migrants

We express our sincere appreciation for France’s decision to share responsibility in dealing with the migration emergency which, until now, has been borne by Italy and few other Mediterranean countries, by opening its ports to the ship ‘Ocean Viking’.

It is important to continue with this approach of European cooperation with the countries that are most exposed due to their geographical position, in order to find a common, shared solution to stop human trafficking and to manage the migration phenomenon, which is now of momentous proportions, in a legal and balanced way.

The migration emergency is a European issue and must be dealt with as such, fully respecting human rights and the principle of legality.
