Ban on large ships and new authorities for the Venetian lagoon: statement by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers
13 Luglio 2021
The Decree Law approved today by the Council of Ministers represents an important step towards protecting the Venetian lagoon system. These regulations will take immediate effect, providing precautions and relief measures aimed at mitigating the relative impacts on employment.
Alongside these measures, a competition announcement has already been published, calling for ideas on how to create and manage berthing points outside of protected lagoon areas in the future. The aim is to make the cruise industry compatible with protecting the local landscape and environment.
Work will also be completed on the ‘MOSE’ system and a new Lagoon Authority will soon be established, updating the former ‘Magistrato alle Acque’.
