Telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Japan
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishiba. The conversation highlighted the shared satisfaction with the path undertaken to constantly strengthen bilateral relations. In this context, President Meloni confirmed her intention to pay an official visit to Japan in the coming months in order to further deepen the fruitful dialogue between Rome and Tokyo and, while there, to also visit the Italian pavilion at the Osaka Expo. The two leaders also discussed the main international issues, including the war in Ukraine, the Middle East and the Indo-Pacific, agreeing to remain in close contact ahead of the upcoming G7 Summit in Kananaskis.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Rossen Jeliazkov, at Palazzo Chigi today. The meeting provided an opportunity to acknowledge the common will to deepen bilateral relations in strategic sectors such as infrastructure and transport, energy, interconnections and defence. During the discussion, a broad alignment of views between Rome and Sofia also emerged on the main European issues, starting with cohesion policy, enlargement and the pursuit of innovative solutions to irregular migration.

Statement by Palazzo Chigi
In addition to her conversation with the Holy Father, the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, also spoke over the telephone today with President Zelensky, President Macron, President Stubb, Prime Minister Starmer, Chancellor Merz and European Commission President von der Leyen. It was agreed to maintain close coordination among partners ahead of a new round of negotiations aimed at a ceasefire and a peace agreement in Ukraine.

President Meloni’s telephone conversation with Pope Leo XIV on Ukraine
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Holy Father on the next steps in order to build a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. The conversation followed yesterday’s call with President Trump and other European leaders, during which President Meloni was asked to verify the readiness of the Holy See to host negotiations. President Meloni, having received confirmation from the Holy Father of the readiness to welcome the next round of talks between the parties in the Vatican, expressed her deep gratitude for Pope Leo XIV’s openness and for his tireless commitment to peace.

NRRP steering committee meeting held at Palazzo Chigi
A steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) was held at Palazzo Chigi this afternoon, called and chaired by the Minister for European Affairs, the NRRP and Cohesion Policy, Tommaso Foti. The meeting, attended by all Ministers and Undersecretaries of State involved as well as by representatives from ANCI [National Association of Italian Municipalities], UPI [Union of Italian Provinces] and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, approved a proposal for a technical review of the NRRP, aimed at ensuring its effective implementation, which will soon be submitted to Parliament and to the European Commission.
