NRRP: payment request for seventh instalment, equal to EUR 18.3 billion, sent to European Commission
The payment request for the seventh instalment of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), equal to EUR 18.3 billion, was sent to the European Commission today. The request was submitted by Italy following the NRRP steering committee meeting held on 29 November, which was chaired by President of the Council of Ministers Giorgia Meloni and checked that the 67 required objectives (32 targets and 35 milestones) had been met. “Italy is the first nation in Europe to formally submit the payment request for its seventh NRRP instalment. This record will soon enable us to exceed the EUR 140 billion mark, corresponding to more than 72% of the Plan’s total resources. 2025 will be a pivotal year for phase 2 of the NRRP: the roll-out of investments. This is a crucial phase that does not allow for delays, and the Government and all administrations are at the forefront to achieve this goal” stated President Meloni.

Statement by Palazzo Chigi on the arrest of Cecilia Sala
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, has been constantly following the complex case of Cecilia Sala since her arrest on 19 December. President Meloni is closely coordinating with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, and with Undersecretary of State Alfredo Mantovano, in order to bring the Italian journalist home as soon as possible. In agreement with her parents, this objective is being pursued by activating all possible dialogues and with the due caution, which it is hoped that the Italian media will also continue to observe.

NRRP: European Commission pays Italy sixth instalment
The European Commission has today paid Italy the sixth instalment of its National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), worth EUR 8.7 billion. The payment follows the Commission’s positive assessment, formally adopted on 26 November, regarding Italy’s fulfilment of 39 objectives (23 milestones and 16 targets). “Italy is confirmed as the EU Member State to have received the most funding, amounting to EUR 122 billion, which corresponds to 63% of its total NRRP resources. This positive result will enable Italy to invest in many strategic sectors, intensifying production in activities this Government has believed in ever since taking office. Payment of the sixth instalment is the result of intense work, carried out also in synergy with the European Commission, encouraging us to continue in this direction for the good of the nation and its citizens”, stated the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni.

Meeting on implementation of the Italy-Albania Protocol
The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, chaired a meeting at Palazzo Chigi today on implementation of the Italy-Albania Protocol. Also in light of the recent ruling by the Italian Court of Cassation, which indicated the responsibilities regarding determination of safe countries of origin at national level, the meeting reiterated the firm intention to keep working, together with EU partners and in line with the Conclusions of the European Council of 19 December, on so-called ‘innovative solutions’ to the migration phenomenon.

Meeting of the steering committee for the single SEZ for the Mezzogiorno
A meeting of the steering committee for the single Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the Mezzogiorno was held at Palazzo Chigi today, attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni. President Meloni called the steering committee meeting following the decision to keep the portfolio regarding southern Italy at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and in order to systematise all actions undertaken by the Government to revitalise the Mezzogiorno, starting with the single SEZ. The latter provides a real strategic framework for reforms and investments aimed at fostering development in Italy’s southern regions.
