The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, received Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain at Villa Doria Pamphilj in Rome today on the occasion of their State Visit to Italy. The meeting was also attended by the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.
Opening the meeting, President Meloni once again expressed both her personal and the Italian Government’s solidarity for the victims and devastation caused by the flooding in the Valencia region at the end of October.
There was then an exchange of views on relations between Italy and Spain in the context of their common European Union membership, with a particular focus on economic and cultural cooperation.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to confirm the shared strategic interest in further strengthening relations with Latin America, as well as with the Southern Neighbourhood and Africa, also within the broader context of managing the migration phenomenon.
In closing, the main crisis areas were discussed, starting with the Middle East and the most recent developments in Syria.
