National day celebrating Italy’s Unification, Constitution, National Anthem and Flag

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, attended this morning’s wreath-laying ceremony with the Head of State at the Altare della Patria memorial in Rome, on the national day celebrating Italy’s unification, constitution, national anthem and flag.
To mark this national day, which was established by Law no. 222 of 23 November 2012, the President of the Council of Ministers appointed Government representatives to lay wreaths at the tombs of the ‘Padri della Patria’ (the ‘Fathers of the Nation’): Giuseppe Mazzini, Camillo Benso di Cavour, Vittorio Emanuele II and Giuseppe Garibaldi.
The Minister for Public Administration, Paolo Zangrillo, went to the Staglieno Cemetery in Genoa, where the mortal remains of Giuseppe Mazzini rest; Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Justice Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove was present at the cemetery of Santena, in the province of Turin, where the tomb of Camillo Benso di Cavour is situated; the Minister of Labour and Social Policies, Marina Elvira Calderone, attended the ceremony held at the Caprera cemetery, the resting place of Giuseppe Garibaldi; Undersecretary of State to the Ministry of Defence Isabella Rauti was at the Pantheon in Rome, home to the tomb of Vittorio Emanuele II.
To mark today’s national day celebrating Italy’s unification, constitution, national anthem and flag, President Meloni also ordered special flag-flying on public buildings and for Palazzo Chigi’s main façade to be lit up with the colours of the Italian tricolour from 00:01 until 23:59 on 17 March 2025.
