NRRP steering committee meeting held at Palazzo Chigi

12 January 2023

A steering committee meeting for the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (‘NRRP’) was held today at Palazzo Chigi, chaired by the Minister for European Affairs, Southern Italy, Cohesion Policy and the NRRP, Raffaele Fitto, to review progress together with central, regional and local administrations. The meeting was also attended by the President of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, Massimiliano Fedriga, the President of ANCI [National Association of Italian Municipalities], Antonio De Caro, and the President of UPI [Union of Italian Provinces], Michele De Pascale.

Italy has to meet 27 objectives by 30 June 2023, of which 20 milestones and 7 targets, in order to be able to send the payment request for the fourth instalment of EUR 16 billion to the European Commission.
During the steering committee meeting, it was agreed to call specific, bilateral technical meetings over the coming weeks in order to check the implementation status of each measure, also in view of the commencement of the phase to update the NRRP and the inclusion of the REPowerEU chapter. This phase is part of the fruitful cooperation with the European Commission.

Single administrations were asked to provide information and contributions to define measures to speed up investments, also in light of the critical issues that have emerged during the implementation phase.
Minister Fitto stated that “the prompt convening of the steering committee confirms President Meloni’s and the whole Government’s commitment to achieve all NRRP objectives, constantly checking and monitoring all upcoming deadlines, as we have already done over the past months using the new approach that gives a central role to the steering committee’s functions and tasks. This approach indeed allowed this Government to achieve all the 55 objectives that had to be met by 31 December 2022”.
