Meeting on cryptocurrencies held at Palazzo Chigi

A meeting on cryptocurrencies was held at Palazzo Chigi today to discuss Italian Legislative Decree no. 129 of 2024, ahead of the upcoming deadline of 30 June 2025, by which entities intending to operate in Italy within the crypto-assets sector must submit an application for authorisation.

Italian Legislative Decree 129/24 is in line with the ‘MiCAR’, the EU regulation that introduces a harmonised regulatory framework for virtual currencies.

The meeting, chaired by Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers Alfredo Mantovano, was attended by: the Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti; the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi; the Governor of Banca d'Italia, Fabio Panetta; the Commander General of the Guardia di Finanza [Italian Finance Police], General Andrea De Gennaro; the Chief of Police - Director General of Public Security, Vittorio Pisani; the Commander General of the Carabinieri Corps, General Salvatore Luongo; the Director General of the National Cybersecurity Agency, Bruno Frattasi; the Director of the Security Intelligence Department (‘DIS’), Vittorio Rizzi; the Director of the External Intelligence and Security Agency (‘AISE’), Giovanni Caravelli; and, the Director of the Internal Intelligence and Security Agency (‘AISI’), Bruno Valensise.
