The Government has submitted an amendment to the new NRRP decree-law (Decree Law no. 19/2023), in order to allocate EUR 66 million to the ongoing reconstruction work in the Tuscan municipalities hit by the flooding in November 2023. These resources will be used to implement immediate economic support measures for the economic and social fabric, helping the local population, businesses and manufacturers that were directly affected by the floods to deal with their most pressing needs. The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had announced this amendment during the signing ceremony for the Cohesion Agreement with the President of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, on March 13th.

Today, Italy honours and pays tribute to the memory of the 335 victims of the horrific Fosse Ardeatine massacre, carried out by occupying Nazi troops in retaliation for the Via Rasella attack by partisans in Rome. The Fosse Ardeatine massacre is one of the deepest and most painful wounds ever inflicted on our national community and it is everyone’s duty to remember what happened on that fateful March 24th 80 years ago.

Thanks to Italy, for the first time in years, agriculture returned as a topic of discussion for the European Council. This was the result of a process that began with Italy presenting a strategic document at the meeting of the EU council of agriculture ministers (AGRIFISH) on 26 February, and then strongly pushing for agriculture to be included on the European Council’s agenda. The conclusions of the European Council meeting of 21 and 22 March underscore Europe’s recognition of the strategic role played by agriculture, incorporating the main elements of Italy’s document shared with Italian trade organisations.

The horrific massacre of innocent civilians in Moscow is unacceptable. The Italian Government firmly and totally condemns this brutal act of terrorism. I express full solidarity with the people affected and the victims’ families.
