Brexit, Note by the Prime Minister’s Office
15 Gennaio 2019
The Italian Government takes note of the vote by which the British Parliament rejected the ratification of the Agreement on the withdrawal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland from the European Union, supported by the Extraordinary European Council of 25 November 2018 (art. 50).
While waiting for the British Government to clarify its intentions on future developments, the Italian Government will continue to work in close cooperation with the European Institutions and the other EU member Countries to limit the negative consequences of the Brexit and, in particular, to protect the rights of Italian citizens residing in Britain and those of British citizens living in Italy, ensure the stability of the markets and of the banking, insurance and financial sectors, and for a withdrawal to be as orderly as possible in all other fields so as to protect citizens and companies alike.
It is in this context that preparations will continue to intensify so as to be ready to face up to all possible scenarios, including the undesirable event of a No-Deal Brexit by 29 March, 2019.
