Conte incontra al-Serraj

Il Presidente Conte ha incontrato il Presidente del Consiglio Presidenziale libico, al-Serraj. Al centro dei colloqui, cui ha preso parte anche il Ministro degli Esteri Di Maio, la situazione contingente e gli sviluppi dei tavoli negoziali.

Il Presidente Conte ha sottolineato l’urgenza - dopo troppi anni di instabilità e sofferenze per il popolo libico - di adoperarsi affinché il processo politico a guida ONU sia pienamente condiviso e operativo, in quanto unica strada credibile per raggiungere una soluzione complessiva e sostenibile, a partire dall’effettiva attuazione del cessate il fuoco.
E’ stato dunque ribadito il pieno sostegno italiano al dialogo intra-libico, il cui impegno è fondamentale per garantire una transizione istituzionale ordinata ed efficace verso le elezioni di dicembre 2021.
Focus anche sui rapporti bilaterali, con specifico riguardo per la collaborazione economica e securitaria.

Today President Conte met with the President of the Libyan Presidential Council, al-Serraj. At the core of the talks, attended also by Foreign Minister Di Maio, was the situation on the ground and the latest developments of the negotiations.

President Conte highlighted the urgency - after too many years of instability and suffering for the Libyan people - to ensure that the UN-led political process is fully shared and operational, since it represents the only credible way to reach a comprehensive and sustainable solution, starting with an effective implementation of the cease-fire.

Italy's full support for the intra-Libyan dialogue -whose development is crucial in order to ensure an orderly and successful institutional transition towards the elections of December 2021- was therefore reaffirmed.
Focus also on bilateral relations, with specific regard to economic and security cooperation.

Constructive meeting with President Serraj. The importance of swiftly advancing the political process under the auspices of the UN was reiterated.
